Workshops led by Manju Jois

Class Type brief description of approach and suitability :

Ashtanga : Asana series in the tradition of my late teacher Sri.K.Pattabhi Jois, Mysore, India. I also bring the influences of his son Manju Jois and grandson Sharath with whom I have studied extensively in India and Europe (including Ireland of course) ~ Ashtanga, often seen as an energetic practice but can be modified to suit people with various limitations and health concerns.

Selfpractice (Ashtanga) : A little difficult to explain to those who have not experienced such a class. It is also known as Mysore-style, being the method used in Mysore to teach the Ashtanga Vinyasa approach. It is almost like a one-to-one with a small group of participants. Generally the student will practice the Ashtanga sequence up to the point of proficiency with the assistance of myself. But also it is an opportunity for me to give special practices to those who may have certain requirements, such as injury or weight or anxiety etc. So, asana and pranayama, meditation and chanting can be part of this class.

Hatha for all : A class which offers a wide range of practices, including many different and lesser known asana/postures (and indeed many asanas revealed through my own practice and progression). I also introduce breathing techniques and meditaions. Each class is a unique experience and there is always something new or varied to work on. Because of its slower pace it is certainly sutable for all levels of practitioner, experienced and new, with variations and modifications ranging from beginners to advanced within the same class space. I often give these classes the title "BodyBreathBeing" as these three aspects of the humanbeing are touched upon.

Private classes : For special requirements and where it is not possible or desirable to attend an open class, I take private students and give personalised programmes to be folllowed over a period of time. Progress and suitability are reviewed on an ongoing basis and often the student will then join an evening or morning class.
